Reduced production at Jarl Timber AB

To meet the weaker demand, the management has decided to reduce the production during Christmas and New Year holiday. Because of the cold weather we find that the demand has decreased in recent weeks, and that will most certainly last a period into next year.

The management has also decided to shut down the small logline to be able to have full focus at the main logline .

The small logline was built in the early 70´s, and requires major upgrades to proceed in a safe manner, so it was a natural decision to shut down the line, says Kjell Gabrielsson, CEO.

The cutback will not affect any employee since all will be placed in existing production.

Jarl Timber AB is a subsidiary of Norvik Group and Norvik Timber Industries.

The future of Jarl Timber!

image

Jarl Timber AB recently announced that the Sales/Marketing Department will be enhanced by a new appointment from the 25th of August - when Kent Johansson joins the ’Jarlie Team’.

Kent was born and bred in our neighbour village Långasjö - he is well known within Jarl Timber.
Firstly as a customer of timber products in his previous position with ESS-ENN Timber Skruv, where he worked as a trader for over 7 years. Secondly Kent has been a loyal supplier of logs and forest-products from his farm to Jarl-Timber.

Kent has a solid background in the Sawmilling industry, a Forestry degree as a base and after that manager / log-grader and personal manager at the Geijer Sawmill Långasjö.
This sound background and commercial curiosity for sales and trading took him to ESS-ENN Timber where he has accomplished knowledge and experience mainly in the markets of Europe and Middle-East.

Carl-Johan Nilsson Sales Manager at Jarl Timber and Ronney Jarl Sales Director, are very pleased that Kent has accepted the invitation to join them here at Jarl Timber.
We believe that in our trade - Sawmilling - plus a broad knowledge from forestry to production and being able to deal with customers, their demands, to build and keep long term relationships with customers, old and new - is the key to sales and marketing. ’We know that Kent has got this capacity’ says Carl-Johan.
We are now fully complimented with our knowledge and experience.
’Kent we welcome you to our Team’ says Ronney Jarl.

Kent´s main responsibility will be to increase Jarl Timber´s marketshare.
To strengthen and broaden the current sales network with new ’interesting customers’ and develop and increase our marketshare in the Middle East and other rapidly growing ’unexplored markets’ Carl-Johan Nilsson says ’with all our combined experience both old and new we will definitely increase our trading activity’

’I am convinced that with Jarl Timber´ modern well invested mill with a very focused production - a strong owner with vision - and a god reputation for quality sawn and planed products, backed by second to none service and flexibility we will be able to offer customers a broad range of products with high customer value.
I really look forward to getting started and join the team, what better way than with someone you have known nearly all your life, - and I know we will not only be able to sell and promote timber - we will also have a lot of fun!’ - says Kent with a big grin spreading across his face.

M/V ”Mosvik”

image

The acquisition of the bulk carrier M/V ”Mosvik” and the establishment of Norvik Shipping Ltd was finalised in November 2007 and is now up and running.

The fierce competition for vessels and tonnage is not getting better and this gives us, as a producer, good opportunities and strength, knowing that we have access to our own vessel.

‘Loading capacity for the M/V “Mosvik” is approx 4000m3. This will enable us to ensure on time deliveries’, says Henrik Jarl, CEO of Jarl Timber.

Janne ”Big” Johansson

image

Janne-Big is retiring after 40years with Jarl Timber. Janne-Big explained, ‘it’s the right time to retire even though it is a couple of years early and I think it will be nice to spend some more time with my lady, my kids and the grandchildren!’

Janne Big has served on many positions in the mill, from green chain to machine operator, but for the last 20 years he has been in charge of the Big mechanical shovel, hence the name Janne-Big.

Jarl Timber wish Janne-Big good luck and hope he will enjoy his new role as a football trainer for his grand children.

Robin Franksson, Fredrik Olausson, David Lundberg, Per Ström, Niklas Gustavsson, Feriz Gusinac, Magnus Karlsson och Stefan Bjuringer.

Winner of Jarl Timber website competition

image

When jarltimber.se was launched in November, Jarl Timber’s forestry department ran a rather clever competition, based on forestry matters and aimed at Jarl Timber’s forest suppliers.

Hundreds of participants entered and there were several correct answers. The lottery draw found the happy winner, Kent Johansson, who’s presented above together with Henrik Jarl, CEO of Jarl Timber.

1st prize: 4-wheel Kawasaki motorcycle.

2nd prize: 8 hours free forestry with 1 harvester and 1 forwarder.

3rd prize: Replantation of 2500 spruce plants.

New drying plant.

image

Jarl Timber has always been at the forefront of modern sawmilling and this latest investment in a completely new drying plant continues that theme. Known as a progressive kiln, this new plant incorporates the very latest in drying technology. Construction is almost completed and the new plant, supplied by Valutec, will come into operation towards the end of November 2007.

The plant has an annual drying capacity of 55,000 m3 and adds to our large existing kiln systems. By the time this has been completed the total investment in this project will have exceeded 15million SEK (around £1.1m or E1.6m) and is a further step in our efforts to ensure a secure service of quality products for our customers.

The bark beetle.

We are happy to report that this summer has seen a vastly reduced level of bark beetle attack with far lower levels of damage compared to 2006, but this is an ongoing issue and all we can really say is 'don't start cheering yet!'

The damage caused by beetle attack last summer have meant that we have seen delays in getting all of the timber that we were forced to fell, to the sawmill.

New Timber Measurement Regulations.

These will create a simpler system with fewer Spruce classes and will pave the way for more automated measurement. The changes will come into force during this winter and spring 2008.
